NBG kept the policy rate at 8.25%

9 Sep 2026

On 9 September, the National Bank of Georgia kept the monetary policy rate unchanged at 8.25%. August inflation was 5.6%, above the 3% target, and the Bank maintained a moderately tight policy stance.

01 · What happened

The rate was also held at 8.25% in July after being raised to that level in May. The NBG said energy and food-price pressures remain important inflation risks and left the next decision for 21 October.

02 · Investment impact

Keeping the policy rate elevated for longer can keep GEL borrowing relatively expensive and affects the affordability of leveraged purchases. Cash buyers are less directly exposed, but financing conditions can still influence buyer demand, developer sales pace and resale liquidity.
